The Big Red Fleet Company

Who are we?

The Big Red Fleet Company is an organisation that has been created to meet the growing demand for formal training and education of employees who are required to drive vehicles as part of their employment.

This demand has come about in response to the increasing costs companies are incurring as a result of accidents involving their employees and vehicles on today’s busy roads. In addition the Health and Safety Executive has recognised driving at work as the single largest cause of injuries and fatalities in the workplace, and has recently issued guidelines to all employers on how to minimise the risk of such events occurring.

The Big Red Fleet Company is unique in recognising that safer driving is not only a function of skills training, but also a result of educating road users on the impact their attitude and behaviour can have on the safety of themselves and others around them. As a result our training and education programme combines both driving skill based and behavioural elements to provide a more holistic solution to clients

Our Mission

To provide training and education that directly reduces the risk to employees of incurring injury as a result of accidents whilst driving at work, and reduces the cost to employers arising from these accidents.

Our People

The Big Red Fleet Company may be brand new but our team brings together an impressive breadth of experience.

Our Services

The Big Red Fleet Company provides a range of services specifically tailored to the needs of organisations requiring the use of motorised transport as part of their business.

These services combine a range of off-the-shelf workshops, seminars and courses as well as consultancy support tailored to individual clients needs.

We recognise safety of staff is an issue equally important to organisations large and small, local and national, and have therefore created a company that has the flexibility to address client needs regardless of size or geography through a nationwide network of qualified instructors and trainers.

Examples follow of just two of the services The Big Red Fleet Company can offer your organisation.

It’s all about attitude!

A one-day workshop aimed at improving the safety of any employee involved in driving as part of their work. The workshop comprises 2 sections looking at the skills required to drive safely, and how attitudes and behaviours can compromise or complement these skills.

Workshop Part 1 – Interactive Seminar

Delivered by Hugh Rawlings this workshop looks at how behaviour, attitude and stress can cause bad driving and how we, as drivers, can take responsibility for changing the way we approach the driving experience.

Presented in a challenging and thought-provoking manner, this session encourages participants to critically assess their own driving skills and identify those things they need to change. As part of the workshop participants will learn techniques that will help them make these personal changes and become safer drivers.

Workshop Part 2 - In-car

Delivered by one of our Fleet Trainers and designed to help put into practice some of the techniques learned on the seminar.

Typically this would include:

Pre-drive checks; self and vehicle.
Route planning; avoiding stressful junctions, timing of journey, reducing right turns.
Development of practical driving skills; correct use of controls.
Development of forward planning skills.
Practical stress reducing methods; speed control and anticipation.
Hazard awareness.
Risk avoidance by maintaining space around vehicle.

Risk Assessment Service

Managing work-related road safety should be an integral and vital part of your company’s Health and Safety Policy but for many organisations it is not necessarily clear what is required and whether current practice is sufficient.

The Big Red Fleet Company provides a one day Risk Assessment Service which assesses the organisation’s current approach to managing work related road safety. In light of the assessment and the HSE guidelines we will recommend appropriate actions for improving the safety of your employees.

Typical areas covered in this assessment include,

Responsibility

Management understanding and commitment to the process.

Policy

A Health & Safety Policy should be written down if a company employs 5 or more people.

A review of your current policy.

Organisation & Structure

Lines of management and communication.

Systems & Monitoring

What is in place? Does it work? Is it sufficient?

Costs and structure

The one day assessment is charged at £350 + VAT.
