bit about me ...
My name is Martin Lewis, I am a DSA Approved Driving Instructor and a member of the DIA. Based in Cranbrook, Kent, I provide driving lessons and intensive courses across a large part of the TN postcode area. I also offer refresher lessons to those who may have already passed their test but may wish to brush up their skills; whether it is a certain manoeuvre or improve confidence with night or town driving.
My lessons are structured towards you ‘the driver’ and will build on a base of positive attitude towards road safety and other road users, whilst developing your skills and building your confidence: the goal being, not just to pass your test but to teach you safe driving skills for life.
I will always try to be flexible and pupil orientated with my teaching methods whilst at the same time making the lesson something, I hope, you look forward to. I will always endeavour to be patient and professional, something that The Big Red L Company tries to
instill in all its instructors.
Although I have passed all the necessary qualifications to become an Approved Driving Instructor, I feel it is important to
continue with my own professional development and further improve my own skills to an advanced level. In addition I am always seeking out new ways to gain a deeper understanding of the teaching process and make our lessons progressive, interactive and fun.
A large part of my career life has been spent working with people on a one to one basis, but driving tuition, in particular, gives me a real buzz. I am in a privileged position being able to pass on a real life skill to my pupils.
I enjoy my driving and am pleased to say I have just taken delivery of a new shape Ford Fiesta 1.4 (Dec ’08). A car that will not intimidate the novice driver but has enough power to support you as you progress towards becoming independent. Not too big either, so great when things get tight. Those
manoeuvres should be no problem!
What makes me tick
Well, outside work, I try to keep life simple, enjoying what is around me. I love to get out on my Triumph Bonneville and explore the Kent & Sussex countryside or you might find me at Brands Hatch watching the racing! I have twenty-seven years experience as a motorcyclist and it still puts a smile on my face! I definitely feel it has made me a better driver too, biking is wonderful for honing your hazard perception skills!!
I have not been living in Kent for long, so am still discovering the local villages and pubs and on Saturday you may well find me supporting my local rugby team, Cranbrook. That's if I'm not working of course!
Finances permitting, my girlfriend and I like to explore France and when we feel a bit more flush we enjoy visiting Cape Cod, a beautiful part of New England.
Do I have any secrets? No not really, although, I once cooked for Patsy Kensit and I have taken a stroll down the King's Road with Kylie Minogue! My fifteen minutes of fame involved me being flattened by school mates on the BBC for an energy saving campaign in the 70's!!
